Simple past future tense adalah salah satu dari tenses dalam bahasa Inggris yang paling sering digunakan. Hal ini karena tense ini merujuk pada masa lampau dan mengungkapkan segala kejadian yang akan dilakukan di dalamnya. Pengertian Simple Past Future Tense

Simple past future tense adalah bentuk tense yang digunakan untuk menyatakan kejadian yang akan terjadi atau dilakukan di masa lampau (past future). Sehingga apapun yang akan kita lakukan atau rencanakan saat itu dapat diungkapkan dengan tense ini. Demikian pula dengan keadaan atau kondisi kita, seperti:

I would come if I knew.
My father had a strong feeling that the weather would be warm yesteday.
I thought she would go along with you.

Rumus Simple Past Future Tense

Simple past future tense memiliki dua rumus. Yang pertama disebut verbal dan dipakai ketika terdapat verb (kata kerja), sementara yang kedua disebut nominal dan digunakan tatkala tidak terdapat verb. Sebagai gantinya, be perlu ditambahkan di rumus kedua ini.

Secara garis besar, fungsi simple past future tense dalam bahasa Inggris adalah sebagai:

  1. Untuk menyatakan aksi yang akan dilakukan secara sukarela di masa lampau

    Contoh:

    I would submit the task yesterday.
    (Aku akan mengumpulkan tugas itu besok.)
  2. Untuk menyatakan aksi yang akan dilakukan secara terencana di masa lampau (be going to)

    Contoh:

    They said they were going to meet Mr Charlie.
    (Mereka bilang mereka akan menemui Mr Charlie.)
  3.  Untuk menyatakan prediksi di masa lampau

    Contoh:

    I thought Justin Bieber would release the new album last month.
    (Kukira, Justin Bieber akan merilis album barunya bulan kemarin.)
  4. Untuk menunjukkan janji di masa lalu

    Contoh:

    A friend of mine promised that he would pick me up at five.
    (Temanku janji akan menjemputku jam 5.)
  5. Untuk menyatakan harapan di masa lalu

    Contoh:

    Many working-class people hoped the government would cut land tax for them.
    (Masyarakat golongan pekerja berharap pemerintah akan memangkas pajak tanah untuk mereka.)
