Pengertian, Rumus, Fungsi, dan Contoh Past Future Continuous Tense

Past future continuous tense, atau disebut juga sebagai past future progressive tense, adalah salah satu dari tenses dalam bahasa Inggris yang bisa dikatakan jarang digunakan. Hal ini karena tense ini merujuk pada masa lampau dan mengungkapkan segala kejadian yang akan sedang berlangsung atau terjadi di dalamnya. Berikut akan dipaparkan pengertian, rumus, fungsi, dan contoh past future continuous tense.

Pengertian Past Future Continuous Tense

Past future continuous tense adalah bentuk tense yang digunakan untuk menyatakan kejadian yang sedang berlangsung atau terjadi di masa lampau (past future continuous). Sehingga apapun yang akan sedang kita lakukan saat itu dapat diungkapkan dengan tense ini. Demikian pula dengan keadaan atau kondisi kita, seperti:

I would be attending the conference if I were in Jakarta.
We would be doing the research if we were successful.
My uncle would definitely be riding the house at the time like this.

Rumus Past Future Continuous Tense

Past future continuous tense memiliki dua rumus. Yang pertama disebut verbal dan dipakai ketika terdapat verb (kata kerja), sementara yang kedua disebut nominal dan digunakan tatkala tidak terdapat verb. Sebagai gantinya, be perlu ditambahkan di rumus kedua ini.

Fungsi dan Contoh Past Future Continuous Tense

Secara garis besar, fungsi past future continuous tense dalam bahasa Inggris adalah sebagai:

  1. Untuk menyatakan kejadian yang akan sedang terjadi di masa lampau

    Contoh:

    My family would be having dinner at the moment.
  2. Untuk mengungkapkan prediksi, dugaan, atau harapan untuk masa lampau

    Contoh:

    I expect my father would be arriving home at 7 yesterday.
  3. Untuk menyatakan CONDITIONAL SENTENCE Type II

    Contoh:

    You would be wet if you didn’t take an umbrella with you now.
    (Kamu akan basah kuyup jika tidak membawa payung.)
    Fakta: You take an umbrella with you now.
  4. Untuk menyatakan INDIRECT SPEECH dari future continuous tense

    Contoh:

    George :
    (direct)
    Jack :
    (indirect)
    I will be studying for the exam tonight.
    (Aku akan sedang belajar untuk ujian malam ini.)
    George said that he would be studying for the exam that night.
    (George bilang, dia akan sedang belajar untuk ujian malam itu.)
